Jeff updates expected rainfall; weekend forecast

14 News Chief Meteorologist Jeff Lyons says a cold front to our west will bring widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over the weekend.  Showers and a few imbedded thunderstorms will move into the Tri-State before midnight and will continue through Saturday and Sunday.

Total rainfall of 2-3" appears likely, and this may cause some localized flooding and also prolong flooding conditions along the Wabash and Little Wabash Rivers.

Slight risk for severe thunderstorms

Slight risk for severe thunderstorms

Warmest days of the year so far this year about to be slammed by a potent cold front.

Temps surged into the lower 80s this week and will be near a record high this afternoon.

Thunderstorms will hold off until later tonight and end early on Thursday.  We are still under a slight risk for severe storms, meaning several storms could be packed with large hail...damaging winds with a chance of isolated tornadoes.  In the wake of the front, temps will sink into the mid 50s Friday afternoon.

BE ALERT for severe storms later tonight through early Thursday.

Comet Panstarrs finally appeared after stubborn clouds lifted over the Tri-State.  Kevin Banning got this great shot from Evansville's North Side using a Canon 5d Mark III with a 200 mm lens.  You'll have another chance to see the comet on Thursday night right after sunset.  Just look slightly above where the sun goes down around 7:30.

Snowy morning in Darmstadt

Snowy morning in Darmstadt

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...at least it was this morning in Darmstadt where big flakes came down heavily between 6:30 and 9 a.m.

Thanks to Town Clerk Mallory Lowe who snapped this photo for us of St. Joseph Avenue there.

Below, a look at the commute along Old State Road around 7:20.

Temperatures should warm up and melt away this stuff as the day goes on but expect about an inch of accumulation on grassy surfaces.
