Softball equipment stolen from Central High

Evansville Police are looking for suspects in the theft of some softball equipment from Central High. 

It happened sometime between the team's Monday and Tuesday workouts west of the school building. 

The storage facility that houses the players' lockers was locked after Monday's practice but when coaches and team members arrived on Tuesday, they found the back door to the building had been forced open and much of the players' equipment had been stolen.

Hester to sign with DePauw

Hester to sign with DePauw

Central High's outstanding senior quarterback, Jacob Hester, will announce his plans to attend DePauw University next week.

Hester threw for 2,740 yards and 24 touchdowns in leading the Bears to a Class 4A sectional championship.  He was named honorable mention all-state.

He'll sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday, February 29 in the high school commons.

Boys' sectional basketball tourney information

Four hundred and one teams were drawn Sunday and placed into brackets for the 102nd Annual IHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament.

Sectional games are scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 27, and run through Saturday, March 3, with the regional round slated for March 10 and semi-states on March 17. The four state championship games that make up the state finals will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 24. Sectional schedules will be announced by the host schools this week.

North piles up points in win over Tell City

It was an unofficial "NBA Night" in the new Husky Arena on Thursday night.  North High kept fans entertained--and in their seats for fear of missing something--in a 107-72 win over the Tell City Marksmen.

Jalen Chambers scored 39 points for the Huskies, who played on Thursday because of girls' sectionals, which take place Friday night.

North is now 10-7 and has won five of their last six games.  They play at Terre Haute South next Friday night.

 

Central hosting girls sectional this week

Central hosting girls sectional this week

The IHSAA girls' sectionals open this week.  At Central, the five 4-A teams battling it out for the title will be:  Central, North, Harrison, Reitz and Castle.

North and Harrison open things up at 7 p.m. Tuesday.  The winner will advance to play Reitz in the second game of the Friday semi-finals.  Game one on Friday will pit Central against Castle.

The championship game is Saturday night at 7.

Tickets are $6 per session or $10 for a tournament pass.

TV giveaway, Boomer dunking at North-Central game

North High has big plans for its first boys basketball game against rival Central in the new Husky Arena this Friday.

There will be a "Taste of North" with food in the commons area from 5-7 p.m.  Fans can register to win a 32" Sony Bravia flat screen TV during the evening and at halftime of the game, Boomer, the Pacers' mascot will perform a dunk routine.  He'll also draw the TV winner in the third quarter.

Tipoff for the JV game is 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow around 7:30.
