Workshop Saturday for Jacobsville planning

 

Jacobsville residents and stakeholders will gather Saturday, April 13, at 10:00 a.m., at Delaware Elementary School to develop a shared local vision for the Jacobsville neighborhood.

The visioning workshop is facilitated by Jacobsville Join In, the organization working to develop the Jacobsville Quality of Life Plan funded by the City of Evansville.  The Indiana Association for Community Economic Development (IACED) in association with Jim Capraro, Senior Fellow for the Institute for Comprehensive Community Development will lead the workshop on Saturday.

Based on what the city says are "qualifications, competence, experience and reputation", the Evansville Redevelopment Commission today selected Kinzelman Kline and Gossman (KKG), now known as MSI/KKG following a recent merger, to perform urban planning and design services for the Jacobsville Redevelopment Area.

The new master plan will guide future economic development, commercial development and regulatory aspects of the Jacobsville Redevelopment Area.

“I know how important this project is to the people of Jacobsville,” said Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel in a news release. “I am glad we were able to take this significant step forward to revitalize their neighborhood.”

Three long vacant buildings on First Avenue at Diamond are being torn down.  Crews began the process of demolishing a small structure that most recently held public auctions and another which used to house a Hills department store, then a Venture in the 1990s and briefly, a Shopko. 

Another served as a Buy-Low that was attached to a strip mall once home to a Chinese restaurant and auto parts store, among other businesses.  All are slated to be flattened within the coming days according to the current owner.

With high school football teams in playoff form, leaves changing colors and falling to the ground, and brisk cold nights in the forecast, that can mean only one thing for Vanderburgh County residents:  Property taxes are coming due soon.

Vanderburgh County Treasurer Rick Davis on Friday reminded taxpayers that the traditional Nov. 10 fall property tax deadline is less than two weeks away. 

UE students will conduct survey in Jacobsville neighborhood Saturday

UE students will conduct survey in Jacobsville neighborhood Saturday

A group of students from the University of Evansville will conduct neighborhood surveys from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, in the Jacobsville area.

The surveying is part of the overall initiative of several nonprofit organizations, churches and businesses to revitalize that area and will take place during those times on various days until Nov. 18. The data collected will serve as a baseline to gauge improvements expected over the next few years. 

Students will assess the area from the sidewalk or street and will not enter private property.

Home sales down slightly in Vanderburgh Co.

September home sales in Vanderburgh County were down slightly compared to the same month last year, according to figures released by the Indiana Association of Realtors.  For for the first nine months of 2011, sales also remained behind last year.
