Girl raising money for new sheriff's K-9 gains more support

An eight-year-old girl continues her mission to raise money to replace a Vanderburgh Co. Sheriff's Office dog accidentally shot in the line of duty.

Valerie Shaffer is a second grader at Vogel Elementary School. She says after hearing about what happened to Trax, she wanted to do something to make a difference.

On Saturday, Valerie set up outside Rural King on Morgan Ave. and raised a pretty good sized chunk of change.

He's a fixture at Turoni's. Ed Valentine knows hundreds of songs on the accordian. His wife plays too. He says they've been "squeezing together for years and years now." We caught him in actiion over the weekend, serenading patrons with his collection of tunes. You can find him most weekends at Turnoni's on Main St.

Henson named to post at Ivy Tech

Ivy Tech Community College - Southwest announces today that Rob Henson has been selected as the new Executive Director of Resource Development.

As Executive Director, Henson will be responsible for developing, managing, and sustaining a strong fundraising program in the Ivy Tech - Southwest region, including the counties of Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Knox, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. Henson will also foster relationships with community groups, employers, and individuals to further the mission of the College and secure resources that will support students, faculty, and programs.

North's Caleb Kerr named state High School Heisman finalist

As the competition narrows for the 2011 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award program, 20 of Indiana’s top scholar-athletes were announced today as State Finalists for the prestigious award. These finalists are now in the running to become State Winners, the next phase of the program as applicants advance to become National Winners.

North High's Caleb Kerr is among the state finalists.

New executive director for SWIRCA & More

SWIRCA & More has hired new Executive Director, Rhonda Zuber. This position was formerly filled by Robert “Steve” Patrow who served as Executive Director for over 38 years.

“We are very excited to begin a new phase in the journey of SWIRCA & More with the addition of Rhonda Zuber to lead our organization into a new era,” said Randall Craig, President of the SWIRCA & More Board of Directors.

New North High A.D. among state's youngest

Peyton Stovall, the new athletic director at North High is just 26 years old, but those with whom he's worked  say he's ready for the job.

Stovall spent a year as the Huskies' assistant AD and assistant basketball coach.  Clearly, he impressed EVSC officials.

Prior to his arrival in Evansville, Stovall played basketball at Lafayette Jeff and Ball State, where he developed a reputation as a leader.  He was working on his master's in 2010 when he got the
