ECHO Housing Corporation announces Jacobsville Community Mobilizer

ECHO Housing Corporation, the convening agency for the Jacobsville Quality of Life Planning initiative, announces Jennifer Mason as the Community Mobilizer for the project. The City of Evansville granted funds for a resident-led collaborative process to develop a Quality of Life Plan with the Jacobsville neighborhood.

Mason joined ECHO in August 2012, as the Homeless Veterans Program Coordinator.  Stephanie TenBarge, ECHO Housing Executive Director, said “Jennifer was a perfect fit to step into the Community Mobilizer role with her public service background and community involvement. We are excited to have her on board to lead this project for the Jacobsville neighborhood.”  Mason will organize this unique initiative bringing together Jacobsville residents, leaders and stakeholders in a planning effort that will set a new vision for Jacobsville with an action plan for achievable results.

North side mom finds USI degree within reach

When Debra Becht enrolled in USI’s Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program in the fall of 2008, she knew she had a challenge on her hands.

Between raising two children and meeting the demands of her career in the financial industry, finding the time to complete a degree would be a true balancing act.

“Returning to college had been on my bucket list for many years,” said the north side resident. “While I had the desire, I also was concerned that I could not fit it on my plate, I was fearful that it would require more time than I had to give.”

Becht was employed as a regional retail manager at Fifth Third Bank in Evansville when her manager approached her about returning to college to complete a degree. With support and encouragement from her employer, family, and friends, Becht began to research her options.
