EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Another property owned by the Evansville-based Kunkel Group is being investigated for possible fire code violations.
Back in May, residents were forced out of their Kunkel Square Apartments in Downtown Evansville when the State Fire Marshal's Office discovered residents were allowed to move in before the building received a certificate of occupancy.
Now, 14 News has learned state fire inspectors are looking at some possible violations at Park 41.
Many will know the building as the old Whirlpool building. The Kunkel Group bought it back in April of last year and renamed it Park 41.
Currently, there are nine small businesses that lease space inside of the building. What 14 News is told on Wednesday is the Vanderburgh County Building Commission has received some complaints about this facility from what they describe as "concerned citizens."
The building commissioner confirmed to 14 News that there is an active investigation underway into some possible fire code violations inside of the building. There are at least three agencies involved in this investgation that is underway.
"It's on going. We received some concerns and we're investigating those thoroughly. We're working with the State Fire Marshal's Office and the fire department in that. There's possible fire code violations we're looking into and it's a big building. It's a complex building," said building commissioner Ben Miller.
14 News spoke with Chuck Harper from the Kunkel Group on the phone on Wednesday night. He confirms his group has met with state fire investigators, but he says they were just doing what they do every day, investigating. He says he hasn't heard from the investigators since that meeting.
The building commissioner says a report should be released next week.
