New kid-friendly format coming to library

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library has announced the arrival of Playaway View, a portable, pre-loaded video player. The Playaway View offers kids access to award-winning, educational, and entertaining programs from top children’s content providers such as PBS Kids, National Geographic, Sesame Street, TumbleBooks, and more.

Between the Lions, Arthur’s Travel Adventures, and Best of Sesame are just a few of the many popular television episodes, animated picture books, and curriculum-based learning videos offered.

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church is holding its summer social and dinner on Sunday, Sept. 18 and the public is invited.  Over $2250 in cash prized will be given away.

Local residents will join Jayden Schneider, a child with Apraxia, in the “2011 Indiana Walk/Fun Run for Children with Apraxia of Speech” event  to help bring awareness to the motor speech disorder as well as raise funds to benefit the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA).

St. Mary’s Children’s Services and Kohl’s Department Store are teaming up, once again, to sponsor “Celebrate Safety with the Evansville Otters” on Friday, July 29 at Bosse Field.  The Otters will host the Gateway Grizzlies that evening at 6:35 p.m.
