Sixth Annual Indiana Money Smart Week April 21-18

Several free classes and events that help consumers learn to manage their personal finances will be offered April 21-18 throughout the Tri-State during Money Smart Week.

The week is coordinated by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, which serves most of Indiana, and hundreds of partner organizations dedicated to financial literacy. It is designed to educate consumers about money management and generate awareness of financial education available on a wide range of topics such as saving, investing and using credit wisely.

Want to join some friends and neighbors on a weekly walk?  Join Deaconess and WIKY each Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and walk your way to health and wellness.   The first walk of the season will be at Saturday, April 7 on the Evansville Riverfront (Sunset Park area).

Family activities on the docket at Wesselman Woods

Wesselman Nature Society will host the Evansville Earth Event, a free community-wide celebration of the birthday of Earth Day. The event will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be held at no other than Evansville’s premier urban green space, the Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve.

The spring festival will feature a full day of entertainment, family oriented activities, eco-friendly demonstrations, nature hikes, animal encounters, scavenger hunts, and much more. Entertainment will be provided by Tales and Scales, Rivertown Storytellers, Southern Hollow Dulcimers, Andy Norvell with Kyle Arnette, the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Magic Gardener, and the D’Alto School of Performing Arts.  Plus plenty of local not-for-profit groups and environmentally conscious businesses will demonstrate tools and techniques that anyone can use to be more earth savvy.

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library invites you to participate in special activities planned around National Library Week, April 8-14, which celebrates contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians.  This year’s National Library Week theme is “You Belong @ your library.”   Check out some of the activities planned:

As part of the “Evansville Earth Days -2012 Shades of Green” celebrations, Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has announced  the Bits O’Green Trivia Scavenger Hunt to encourage families to visit the Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden, Wesselman Nature Center, the Pigeon Creek Greenway and Evansville’s parks.          

Print out the Bits O’Green Trivia Scavenger Hunt questionnaire from any of the websites listed below.  Travel around the City to find the answers to the TRIVA questions and turn in your completed form by mail, email or drop it by the Wesselman Nature Center or the main entrance of the Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden.

Award-winning author to speak at library

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library and the Evansville Area Reading Council welcome Jennifer L. Holm, award-winning children’s and young adult author, to Central Library on Saturday, March 10. 

Holm will speak about her work and sign copies of her books at 10:30 am in the Browning Events Room.  Barnes and Noble will have books available for purchase at the event.  Her books include Babymouse, Squish, Turtle in Paradise, and Our Only May Amelia, to name a few.

Anime convention coming to Holiday Inn

 Evansville’s only Japanese anime convention, EvilleCon, will take place Friday, March 30-Sunday, April 1.  EvilleCon 2012 has events, panels, guests, and more at the Holiday Inn Evansville Airport.  Show hours are from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. on March 30; 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. on March 31 and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to April 1.
