Bethlehem United Church of Christ (6400 Oak Hill Road) will be hosting their 12th Annual Ice Cream Social to benefit Habitat for Humanity on Sunday, July 8 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.  Each year, Bethlehem helps raise funds and builds a home in the Evansville Area with other UCC and DOC churches.  Their fundraising goal this year is $5,000 toward their portion of the house.  This is one of many activities the church does to raise funds and awareness for Habitat.

This event features grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, picnic sides, and of course...ICE CREAM!  There are no set menu prices, but a free-will offering for Habitat for Humanity will be accepted.

Keeping kids and pets safe from fireworks

Keeping kids and pets safe from fireworks

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office reminds Tri-Staters that children ages 10-14 are twice as likely to be injured by fireworks.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, two out of five people injured by fireworks are under the age of 15, and children ages 10-14 are the most at risk from fireworks.

Despite their seemingly relative harmlessness, sparklers and small firecrackers cause the most fireworks-related injuries. Sparklers burn at about 1200o Fahrenheit, which is 300o hotter than the temperature at which glass melts. Glow sticks make an excellent alternative to sparklers, especially for young children.
