Sheriff departments and Indiana Department of Child Services crack down on meth use, child neglect

Sheriff departments in Vanderburgh and Warrick counties, along with the Indiana Department of Child Services, are encouraging community members to report incidents of suspected methamphetamine production and use. The two counties are among those Indiana areas battling a high number of meth users and labs, in addition to a rise in illegal prescription drug use.

EVSC collecting healthy fundraising ideas

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Coordinated School Health Team  would like to create a resource guide of healthy alternatives for fundraisers made up of area organizations and businesses with items that could be used to raise money for schools.

The team is looking to gather a list of fundraising ideas that are easy to manage, yet have a reasonable profit capability. Ideal fundraisers will include non-food items such as flowers, plants, mulch, jewelry, etc. and those that include healthy food choices.

NEW THIS YEAR:

Coat-A-Kid in need of many more coats

Coat-A-Kid in need of many more coats

Blizzard the Polar Bear brought a lot of excitement to this year’s Coat-A-Kid kick-off at Highland Elementary last month. The Evansville IceMen mascot handed out coats and gave hugs at the event before students enjoyed the traditional throwing of their coats into the air.

For the sixteenth year, Don’s Claytons owner Steve Schmitt headed up the Coat-A-Kid kick-off, which this year will exceed 150,000 coats that have been cleaned and distributed to area kids since 1986.

Schmitt says coat donations so far this year have been slow. Because Coat-A-Kid has run out of smaller coats too soon in past few years, he is urging those who can to drop off infant’s and childrens’ coats at any Don’s Claytons location as soon as possible.
