Drury Inn looks for new chain to buy Evansville location

 

The Drury Inn & Suites on U.S. 41, will be sold in an online auction on May 23.

“The Drury Inn & Suites will be delivered unencumbered by management and brand presenting an investor with an opportunity to run the hotel under a different national franchise,” said Douglas Johnson, Managing Director of CBRE Auction Services, which will conduct the sale.

The opening bid will be $1.95 million.

Johnson said Property Improvement Plans (PIPs) will be made available as they are received.

Sixteen students from the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation will be among approximately 5,000 high school students converging on Orlando, Fl., for the Business Professionals of America (BPA) national conference, May 8-12.

The following students have qualified to compete at the conference. The award they won at the state level and school is noted below.

Northside DQ gets a facelift

The makeover of the North Park area Dairy Queen is almost complete.  A couple of months ago, work began inside the restaurant and it now features warmer decor, new seating areas, a new counter and even a big screen TV.

Outside the store, there's a new sign and a facelift on the building that's still in progress.

Located near Raben Tire and Pet Food Center, the restaurant is a north side fixture.  It has remained open throughout most of the renovation period.

After 11 years of experience handling financial responsibilities at Atlas Van Lines, Stacie Banks has been internally promoted to vice president of finance at the company. Banks began her career at Atlas in 2002 as director of internal audit and tax and was promoted to senior director of corporate finance in 2009.

“Stacie has been an instrumental member of the financial team throughout her tenure at Atlas,” said Rick Olson, senior vice president and CFO of Atlas Van Lines. “In her previous role, she was one of three people responsible for developing and implementing the new finance system we use today, and we look forward to the contributions she will make to Atlas as our VP of finance.”

Area preschool and daycare facilities are invited to participate in the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library’s 6th annual Preschool Fair on Saturday, April 6.  The fair will be from 10:00 am-2:00 pm in Central Library’s lobby.

Parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to explore childcare and preschool options available in the Evansville area at this free event.

Two Tri-State businesses were awarded EDGE awards at the Indiana State House this week.

Indiana Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann presented the 2013 Economic Development and Growth through Entrepreneurship (EDGE)  Awards to Mark and Kailyn Hudson from HoneyBaked Ham Company and Café and Kim and Jim Derk of Lifesong Academy.

Located just off North Green River Road, HoneyBaked Ham Company and Cafe was recognized as the “emerging business” for 2013.  Mark and Kailyn came to the Southwest ISBDC in April 2011 for assistance with fine-tuning the company’s operating plan and other guidance. The HoneyBaked Ham Company and Café employs six employees.

Stepto's Bar-B-Que Shack closes

A fixture on Evansville's north side for eight years, Stepto's Bar-B-Q Shack and Catering Company closed its doors for good on Monday.

Owner Mike Stepto wrote on the business' Facebook page that the decision was difficult but the move was made because of new opportunities and "external factors" beyond his control.
