Cash prizes in elementary, middle school recyclables art contest

Vanderburgh and Warrick County students in 3rd through 8th grades are invited to express their creative and artistic abilities by transforming recyclable materials, such as soda cans, cardboard, and paper, into works of art.

North to host instrumental music showcase

North to host instrumental music showcase

Nearly 450 student musicians from the North High School District will participate in the North District Instrumental Music Showcase Concert Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m. in the Husky Arena, located at 45331 North Highway 41. Admission is $3 at the door and preschool-aged children are free.

Fifth and sixth grade instrumental music students from Delaware, Evans, Oak Hill, Scott and Vogel will be featured in a combined band and a combined orchestra performance. In addition, the bands and orchestras from North Junior High School and North High School will perform as well as the North Jazz Ensemble.

The Evansville Philharmonic Crescendo Club will host a “Symphony Tea” on Sunday, April 22 at 5:00 p.m. at the Evansville Country Club.  Proceeds from the Tea will benefit the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, a non-profit organization.  Reservation deadline has been extended to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 18.

Those who attend will enjoy a presentation by Jean Noyes, an Englishwoman and Tri-State resident well-versed in English tea customs.  Gina McCalister from Mulberry Jean’s in Newburgh will share information on the health benefits of teas.  “This will be a priceless experience to share with family and friends in an intimate setting,” says Christina Harp, co-chair for the event.

North present The Music Man

Drama students have been busy recently remembering their lines and places for spring plays and musicals taking place at EVSC high schools. Central performed their play, Anything Goes, last weekend.

North will present "The Music Man" April 12, 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. and April 15 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students. The performance is directed by Tina Carraro. ( Contact information: 818-268-5149).

Award-winning author to speak at library

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library and the Evansville Area Reading Council welcome Jennifer L. Holm, award-winning children’s and young adult author, to Central Library on Saturday, March 10. 

Holm will speak about her work and sign copies of her books at 10:30 am in the Browning Events Room.  Barnes and Noble will have books available for purchase at the event.  Her books include Babymouse, Squish, Turtle in Paradise, and Our Only May Amelia, to name a few.

New Tech Institute along with the Thunderbolt Players promise an evening "filled with fun, food, and mystery… Murder Me Always".   Tickets to the play are $12.50 per person with two performances to choose from:

Friday March 2, doors open at 5:30pm for the silent auction with dinner service beginning at 6:30pm.

Afternoon Tea Performance Saturday March 3. Doors open at 2pm for the silent auction with meal service being served at 3pm.

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library has scheduled a number of programs to celebrate Evansville’s Bicentennial.  Events are open to all ages of the public.

River City: A Community Art Project
Now through February 14, share what you love about Evansville.  Contributions will be featured in artwork with Evansville as the theme.  Written submissions accepted at all EVPL locations.  Or, work on a project that will be added to the artwork at our guided participation events at Central Library:
