Oakhill Road Construction Project moves into the next phase

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Bids are in for the next phase of the Oakhill Road Construction Project.

The City of Evansville picked one that came in $600,000 below their estimate.

The next phase calls for a number of improvements to Oakhill Road, including the construction of a continuous two-way turn lane from Pigeon Creek to Lynch Road. The city engineer says it's needed because of the driveways and businesses on this stretch of road. That way, through traffic can easily go by. The $5,000,000 project is 20 percent locally funded. The rest will come from federal funds.

City's final plan calls for $540 million for updated sewer system

(EVANSVILLE, IN)- Allen Mounts, Director of the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility (EWSU) says $540 million is the price tag on the final plan that will be sent to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the end of the month.

The plan would be implemented over 28 years.

Through that time sewer rates would increase from the average $26 per month to almost $90.

The city submitted a first draft to the EPA last summer. Since then, Mounts says the EWSU had some more time to do extra research and analysis.
